The Railway Network
The regional railway network, operated by “Ferrovie del Gargano srl – Railway Infrastructure Division,” consists of:
- San Severo-Rodi-Peschici (Calenelle) railway line of km 73+855, among the first to be electrified in 1931
- Foggia-Lucera railway line of km 19+364
Both lines are standard gauge, single track, with a 3,000 V DC electric traction system.
The Fleet
A total of 11 vehicles are currently used to carry out the rail services under its responsibility, most of them with blocked composition. In pursuit of sustainable mobility goals and also given the demand for greater comfort and quality from users, the company has strongly supported the renewal of the rolling stock in recent years.
The efficient railway service of Ferrovie del Gargano is possible thanks to the fleet it has acquired over the last decade. It is composed as follows:
4 ETR 103 POP Electric Trains
Four POP TRAINS in the Ferrovie del Gargano fleet.
Single-deck 3-car trainsets with 219 seats, 1 universal toilet, 4 3-seat bike racks with electrical outlets, totaling 12 seats, equipped with SCMT Signaling System (SSB), cameras for "live" video surveillance, external information displays, people counting system, 22 internal monitors for traveler information, WiFi access points in all carriages, LED lighting, electrical and USB outlets for each pair of seats.
They are, moreover, designed with comfort seats and ample interior space so that they are also accessible to people with reduced mobility. Finally, they are 97 percent recyclable, an important factor since the Apulia Region and rail transport companies in both rolling stock renewal and infrastructure interventions have sustainability as their main goal.
